Media preoccupation with penis tweets got you down?
Feeling put upon by the steaming hell of mass transit?
Stroller-wielding parents have you cleaning your hunting rifle?

If so, the John McNeil/Bill McHenry Quartet™ has the answer,
my friend: white-hot cool jazz from their first two CDs plus
a few obscure ditties destined for their next CD.

Better than sex or fist fights or wagering on baseball.

John McNeil -- trumpet
Bill McHenry -- tenor sax
Joe Martin -- bass
Rodney Green -- drums

John McNeil & Bill McHenry

Nearly a year and a half ago John McNeil and Bill McHenry recorded their 2nd CD for the Sunnnyside label, live, here at Cornelia Street. The club seems to bring out the best efforts of both players, so this gig should be memorable.

Critics have described them thusly: "What makes this group special is the constant interplay between the two horns. McNeil and McHenry are constantly playing off one another -- even when one is taking a solo, the other is either supporting or answering him, the way a pianist would customarily be expected to do"

"McNeil and McHenry hail from different generations but share an attraction to unfettered harmonic terrain. A pianoless quartet, the group's configuration leaves plenty of elbow room, an opportunity that McHenry and McNeil fully exploit by lacing reharmonizations into their improvised lines, or by abandoning harmonic constraints altogether."
